I'm a wife, momma, and photographer, living out all my dreams of capturing the most genuine, kind-hearted, southern couples and their family memories one wedding at a time!
Let’s talk about all things engagement sessions! I’m giving you all the details that will help answer your questions about the when, where and what to wear!
Engagement sessions truly are so much fun but I can completely understand that they might be a little overwhelming at times. It’s my hope that I can answer a few questions for you here and help to put your mind at ease while you prep for your engagement session.
I normally recommend taking your engagement photos in the spring once all the trees and greenery have had a chance to bloom or in the early fall before all the leaves fall off the trees. This just helps to have the beautiful pops of color in your portraits and one amazing background!
I always like to ask if there is a special place to you that you’d like to take your photos. It might be your family’s pasture or a place you love to go to. If you don’t have a place in mind,ย no worries at all! I have several beautiful locations I love to take my couples to that I promise you’ll love!
This part is really up to you, I will help you choose a location no matter what kind of setting you’re looking for. Once we have your session booked I will reach out to you and ask what you’re looking for in your photos. Is it big beautiful trees, a lake or pond, wide open fields, or is it the downtown streets? No matter the setting, I am there every step of the way to help you choose a location that is perfect for your portraits.
This is one of the most common questions I think everyone has before taking portraits. I know it’s sure my first thought when I have someone taking my pictures. The best advice I can give is to try and Coordinate instead of matching exactly. This helps to give a beautiful balance and look in your images. My second piece of advice would be to choose a softer color palate like pastels or a solid color. Khaki, cream, pinks, teals, and any neutral colors are always great options. I also recommend to try and avoid patterns smaller than a dime. This can sometimes create a strange effect in a digital camera and your patterns might not look the same in your photos as they do in person. Flowing Dresses and skirts always give such a beautiful movement to portraits as well.
Absolutely, I love animals and even have two Australian Shepherds of my own. I do recommend bringing a friend to help keep your pet company when they aren’t in the pictures. This just helps to not leave your sweet pets all by themselves while we complete the rest of your session ๐
Now for my engagement session tips!
This is a great time to test out your make up for your wedding day. It gives you such a wonderful opportunity to see if there are any changes you’d like to make and gives you a great excuse to get your make up done. Plus it photographs just beautifully, and after all of the wedding planning, you deserve to treat yourself ๐
I will be taking some pictures of your new sparkly diamond. Cleaning your ring just helps clean any dirt that may be there so my super up-close lens sees nothing but sparkles ๐
You guys are going to be amazing models and I’ll be there every step of the way! No worries at all, you’re going to rock it!
I hope this helped to answer a few of your questions about your upcoming session! I can’t wait to see you at your session with me soon!
